COMPETENCY
Identify the components of a gas turbine engine servo oil system and explain their purpose.
ADMINISTRATION
Able to distinguish or explain co relationship or verify relative consequence of the components of a gas turbine engine servo oil system and explain their purpose
PROCEDURE
1. Q (knowledge): What are the components of a gas turbine engine servo oil system?
Answer:
Servo oil pump, Servo oil filter, Servo relief valve, Fuel topping actuator.
2. Q (knowledge): What are the functions of components of a gas turbine servo oil system?
Answer:
1. Servo oil pump -Delivers oil at a predetermined pressure to the servo oil system when the engine is running
2. Servo oil filter -Filters the oil in the servo system before it enters the fuel topping actuator
3. Servo relief valve -A safety device installed in the servo oil system to protect the system against overpressure
4. Fuel topping actuator -An electrically controlled, hydraulically actuated unit which pushes against a mechanical linkage lever to provide overriding control of the governor. This overriding control ensures smooth light off and acceleration during start-up, and limits the gas producer speed when high exhaust gas temperatures and power turbine over speed conditions exist.
NOTE: When the fuel topping actuator overrides the governor, the fuel supply to the engine is decreased, thus preventing the engine from shutting down on over temperature and the power turbine from over speeding.
