Single isolated colony of bacterium was inoculated in 100 ml
of LB medium and incubated at 30
±
2 ◦C in an orbital incubator
shaker for 5 days at 130 rpm. Jaggery slurry was prepared in d.w.,
cooled and mixed with bacterial culture. 10 g cowpea seeds were
pelleted with culture at a concentration of 108 cells ml−1. Seeds
coated with medium and jaggery mix (without inoculum) served
as control. Seeds were kept for drying on a clean surface sterilized
plastic sheet in Laminar Air Flow hood.
