I'm a french native speaker. In 2007, I spent a few months working in Florida, where I really got to improve my english.
I have a blog about language, and as in one of the first posts written by Benny (when you were learning Czeck), I'm trying to make people focus on the easy aspects of a language, rather than the hard ones.
So, my question is, what could make you say that English is an easy language?
I came up with a few ideas myself:
- We are surrounded with english. Tv, Radio, etc. If I want to, even in France, I can live and breath english day and night. It is so easy to find tv shows, radio stations in english. If you were to learn Quechua for exemple, that'd be harder. :)
- If you want to practice, it's relatively easy, as you'll find some native or fluent english speakers in a lot of places in the world.
- You dont have to think about saying "le" or "la" (or "el", "la" in spanish, "o", "a" in portuguese) when you speak about something. English use "the" everytime. The table (la table), the dog (le chien)
-easy grammar, almost no conjugations, few irregular verbs
-a lot of words we already know, because they are common to both languages or easy to recognize
Any other ideas ? I'll probably write a blog post about this.
Thanks :)
