1. Gothic architecture
- Originated in 12th – century France and was originally called “ French Work ”.
- Grew out of the “ Romanesque art ” and led to capability in building slimmer and higher building , smaller columns , bigger windows that allow more light to come in.

- Assume that was borrowed from Islamic architecture.
- Helped to reduce the stress on other structural elements.
- Column size can be smaller.
2. Ribbed vaulting
- Made windows higher up in the building’s walls.
- Reduce the weight of the ceiling vault.
3. Flying buttress
- Used to resist the lateral forces pushing a wall outwards by redirecting them to the ground.
