It is indisputable that telecommunication is a vital requirement in the contemporary culture. People are increasingly carrying cell phones in order to help them communicate and maintain contact owing to the fact that cell phones are cheap, fast and convenient means of communication (Anandam and Arceneaux 52). Despite the significance of cell phones in these contemporary times, there are a number of settings whereby the public use of cell phones creates an unbearable feeling on other people, especially in places that require absolute silence and concentration. Though signs prohibiting cell phone use in such areas are often shown beforehand, there are still cases of interruptions by selfish users of mobile phones. Nevertheless, as cell phones are increasingly becoming important in this contemporary culture, it is not practical to completely ban the use of cell phones in public places (BBC News no pag.). Thus, in order to lessen the disturbances resulting from the public use of cell phones, this essay argues for restricting cell phone usage to certain areas rather than allowing cell phone use in all public places. This essay suggests that cell phone use should be banned in settings that require silence such as meetings, hospitals and cinemas among others. Nevertheless, cell phone use should be allowed in places that do not require strict silence such as bus stations and restaurants among others.
