Handy’s motivation calculus theory

Handy’s motivation calculus theory is can be seen as the extension of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and an example of the interpretation of the human condition and response to work. The theory tries to point out the complexities and variation in people’s situation beyond the Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Moreover, it was created to imply that our motivation was controlled by a more complex series of needs than “needs” alone which are the interpretations and assessments form additional layers determining and it also determined by our own response to our needs:
●Needs: The Maslow hierarchy of needs factors which are: personality characteristic, work environment, the outside pressure and influence
●Results: People should be able to measure, anticipate the effect of additional efforts, the resulting from the motivation will produce.
●Effectiveness: People will consider that the result that they receive whether meet the needs of what they feel or not. (businessball.com, 2014)
