During “good” times business travel is up, and business travelers tend to utilize higher-priced guest rooms.
The reverse is also true: weakened economies equate to lessened business travel with a negative impact on hotel revenues.
Today’s hotel organizations frequently grow larger by buying other hotel organizations. There are fewer independent properties, fewer franchisors, and fewer management companies as this consolidation trend continues. The result is not always good for consumers or the industry.
